Research Associate I

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Study Maintenance
    • Animal receipt and housing
    • Dose administration (ID, IP, SQ, IM, IV, IT, PO)
    • Acquire and calculate food and water consumption data
    • Acquire and report body weight and clinical observation data
    • Allocation of study animals
    • Blood collection (cardiac puncture, vena cava, retro-orbital, submandibular)
    • Animal Identification (tail tattoo, ear punch, ear tag)
    • Morbidity/Mortality checks
    • Breeding (mating, weaning, verification of gender, tail biopsies)
    • Collection of samples in support of health surveillance program
    • Humane euthanasia, rodent necropsy
  • Environmental Maintenance
    • Environmental monitoring of animal rooms and equipment
    • Changing cages, feeders, water bottles, and racks
    • Waste disposal (including hazardous, sharps)
    • Sanitation as needed (sweeping, mopping, laundry, quarterly cleaning)
  • Data Management
    • Data collection via Provantis software
    • Creation and maintenance of study notebooks and study forms
    • Creation of spreadsheets, entering and verification of data in spreadsheets
    • Adherence to all SOPs, policies and GLPs as required

Additional Responsibilities

  • Commitment to humane care of research animals in all actions
  • Develop proficiency in new techniques, as needed
  • Attendance at required meetings and training
  • Assist in animal husbandry duties as needed
  • Work in a team environment with a professional and positive attitude
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Education:
    1. H.S. diploma
    2. A.S. degree
    3. B.S. degree
  • Experience:
    1. > 3 years in Toxicology or related field
    2. > 2 years in Toxicology or related field
    3. 0 -1 years in Toxicology or related field
  • Skills:
    • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, peers, and Study Directors
    • Exhibit personal accountability and accept responsibility for study conduct
    • Ability to perform detailed and accurate data collection and recordkeeping
    • Ability to utilize moderate computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Provantis)
  • Certification: AALAS certification at ALAT level preferred

 

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
