Bioinformatician

Responsibilities

The Bioinformatician extracts, manipulates, and interprets large data sets from internal and public access databases and documents for toxicological assessment. They are expected to have a working knowledge of biology, biochemistry, toxicology, and/or statistics. They use computational methods to analyze, simulate, visualize, and predict the toxicity of chemicals from in vivo and in vitro studies. They will consult on experimental design and statistical analysis and develop and coordinate project timelines associated with the implementation of these analyses. They are expected to assist in all aspects of data analysis, including data curation, statistical evaluation, data management, and preparation for/conducting analyses using predefined computational workflows. Dissemination of information needed by U.S. governmental committees and regulatory agencies, stakeholder working groups, peer review panels, and test method developers is an essential part of this position. Likewise, preparation of scientific and technical documents such as presentations, reports, workshop summaries, manuscripts, and operating procedures are core components of this position. The Bioinformatician will work in a team environment where cooperation and a professional attitude are essential. Other duties will be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.S. in related scientific field with at least 2 years post-degree experience in bioinformatics, computational biology/toxicology, (bio)statistics and/or data analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data manipulation using the programming languages R or python is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience analyzing RNAseq and DNAseq data is desired.
  • Experience in cheminformatics or computational toxicology is desired.
  • Experience writing and editing technical documents is desired.
  • Familiarity with KNIME is a plus.
  • Familiarity with supervised and unsupervised techniques is a plus.
  • Functions well independently and in a team environment.

A successful team member will be a service-oriented team player who is able to work on a variety of projects within the area of pharmacology and toxicology. They will work cooperatively with diverse teams and communicate their science effectively to non-technical clients. This position is based in RTP, NC and is eligible for remote work in the U.S.

 

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
